Ed,

Go back to Radio Shack and buy their Remote Foot Switch, Cat. No. 
44-610.  The cord is not as long as the original, and you will wear the
switch out a lot quicker (maybe buy two, so you have one *when* the
first one goes), but at less than $5, it does the job.
