Bass strings on yamaha grand

This is certtainly Not a normal thing.  Could some chemical have been spilled
onto these strings?  They should never be dead this soon.  15-20 years would
be, closer to normal-but even that is a bit early.
These C7's are quite nice.  i service one that was bought new in 1975, gets a
lot of use (in a Performing Arts High School) and I have only had to replace
the few broken strings it has experienced.  Other than that=A Great Piano!
