"In the same year (1842) came Charles Gehrling of Paris, who was followed
by Schwander in 1844".
"Jean Schwander, born at Lauterbach, Alsace, in 1812, came to Paris in
1830 and learned action making at Kreigelstein's factory {est. 1831} He
started his own shop in 1844, and Kreigelstein became his first customer.
After taking Josef Herrburger {also from Alsace} in partnership in 1865
and accepting him as son-in-law, the concern assumed commanding
proportions. ....became the best equipped establishment of its kind...
and young piano makers from all over the Continent came to the Schwander
factory to study modern methods of action making. " p.262
