In my opinion, this are no dumb questions, and that is the list and = friends for. Always there is someone who can benefit from this forums... = > It's popular to end a simple question with "please mail me privately" = but=20 > then other fresh anonymus tuners like me want get the clever answers = so why=20 > don't answer on the list and let the advanced use the delete button. > Thats my opinion. >=20 > The Question is. >=20 > Some of you can tune 20 pianos a day I've read. I cannot, Maybe in very ideal conditions, with very stable pianos, in = the same place, so you do not have to drive from place to place, and if = you do not get tired. .. Personaly, in emergencies I can manage 5 pianos, ending up with a strong = head ache.=20 For my everyday work I plan 2 tunings a day to be confortable with.=20 > And some of you can sit 8 hours to tune a piano for a concert or a = tuning=20 > exam Ive read. I live outside US, Iam not member of PTG, and I never had an exam which = lasted longer than six hours, including theory, ( two hours for tuning) > What is a normal customer paying for? Where I live, I amfounder and member of the local Piano Tuners = Asociation, and there is certain standard in prices between the average = good tuner, nevertheless, when a customer pays a tuning it is up to the = technician who visits him to do only a tuning or to include in the = tuning fee some other small services ie: A cleaning with a vaccum = cleaner, a small repair... =20 > Is it a goal for me to be able to tune a piano in 20 minutes and is it = some thing to be proud of? First let me state that this is my personal opinion, I am more proud of = a good service. I got used to to do a sort of mixed tuning, I use an = electronic tuning device, but keep checking auraly, At the end I go over = the tuning auraly for a better check.=20 I managed to do 20 minutes tunings for emergency tunings, but I feel = exhausted after that, level of stress simply rockets up. So particularly = I prefer taking the time I need without rushing. > Where is the compromise between a goodtuning and a fast tuning? I always go for a good tuning, that means doing it as fast as possible = taking in account all the ckecks needed to assure a good job. > Is there a difference in time and price tuning a normal piano or = tuning a=20 > concert or recording grand? Again, just speaking for myself, I charge extra for a concert, not = because it implies more work, but for me implies more responsabilitie, = and usualy for concerts you always find more unexpected problems to = account for.
