HI:

Just to strengthen your point about stability, I have a Steinway 52" upright
which our Phoenix Chapter rebuilt about 20 years ago. It has a modified
Dampp Chaser system in it. I tune the piano about once every two years now
whether it needs it or not. Usually it doesn't need it, but I just can't
stand letting it go any longer than that. There are no tuning problems with
it. Naturally the pins are tight, but knowing how much to turn the pin to
get the bottom of the pin to turn to the right position is the real trick.
Once the bottom of the pin is in the right place, tweaking the pitch to the
right place is rather simple. I usually tune uprights with a hammer position
around 2:00 O'Clock, using a Hale Tuning Lever.
