pitch lowering

	You guessed right!  I use the SAT and do the same for lowering as pitch
raising.  I usually raise pitch slightly less than the factor of 3
(using the method you mentioned dividing by 3), but subtract a little. 
When I lower the pitch, I use the exact division.  In almost every case,
the result is dead on, or very close.  It's very easy with the SAT to
work with the numbers.  I've never used the Strobe, so I don't know how
you are able to work the numbers.  Anyway, sounds like you've nailed it.
	Here in San Diego, we don't get too many sharp pianos, unless the are
imported or from very dry climates.  Our area is pretty much ideal for
pianos, neither too dry nor too damp, and we don't need to crank up the
heat too much in winter.
