How many of you have had the problem of Protek turning green when you keep
it in one of those valve-spout bottles with the brass fittings (available
from Schaff)? Is this caused by a reaction with the brass? Does anyone
know whether or not this discoloration affects the performance of the
 Protek?

Try putting a thin square of seran-type wrap just over the bottle top and
then screw the lid down on top of the seran-type wrap. This will cut down on
constant direct contact between the brass and the protek. In general, it is a
good way to eliminate any leakage anyway. I have no answer for your direct
question of discoloration.
