Kevin, I wonder if the board would have "flattened" had there been a humidity control system installed for the past 20 or so years. I didn't catch how old the piano is. A Dampp-Chaser system won't make any difference now of course, but I bet it would have prolonged the crown by keeping the moisture content of the board at a reasonable level, despite the bad design.
