Follow the lead of the house.

If there are manmy shoes at the door take yours off to show respect for
the values of the house.

If there are only muddy shoes in a mud toom and yours are muddy, take
them off. Goloshes, rubbers and overshoes as well.

I now wear tennies (actually ten and a helfies now) and they are laced
to easily slip them off and back on again.

I have tuned in many Japanese and Korean homes where outside dirt is
left on the shoes and shoes left at the door. For them it is a matter
of cleanliness and respect.

Besides, it gives you a chance to give your feet a rest.

Safety CAN be an issue at times a shoes may well be in order for which
the home owners will respect the situation.
