RE termination lubrication: 

No spray cans, use a small artist brush.  Put only the smallest drop
where it belongs.  Creep is limited by volume.

If you go this route, and you usually don't have to if you're in the
habit of letting the tension down before raising pitch, use a lubricant
with a low viscosity.  Dirt that adheres to the lubricant will foul up
the termination and turn bright tone to mush.
