Mike: I remember at a National Convention some years ago when someone (Jorgenson?) tuned one of two pianos on stage to another temperament, and one piano to "normal" temperament. Then the same passage from a composition was played on both pianos. Very few persons in the audience of tuners could really note the difference. At least nothing that you could exclaim:"boy was that different!". Don't we really get overwhelmed when someone tells us we should be overwhelmed rather than what we really hear. (I'm sure there's a better way of saying this). It's sort-of the way we react when someone says "do you hear the difference?" and even though we don't really, we don't want that person to think we're either half-deaf or just ignorant, and so we agree with what they think we should be hearing. Car mechanics get away with that all the time. Bob Bergantino,RPT SouthEuclid, Ohio
