I have gained a client with a new Mason & Hamlin, A. I believe it is actually one of the few left just before it went out of business, before PianoDisc purchased it. Anyhoo the fellow is a very accomplished pianist and was in orgasmic delight over his new piano. The key word is "was". His tuner of many years also was delighted with the new piano and was doing lots of filing of hammers and needling to "improve" the tone. "Too bright" was a comment of the tuner. When I came across the piano the treble was dead...I feel so sorry for the pianist...he put all this trust in the tuner....... I lightly filed the hammers (Renner blues) and tried a 6 to 1 mixture of sanding sealer/thinner on the crowns in the treble graduating into the tenor. At first He was thrilled, but has decided it still doesn't have the sustain/presence as before. I intend to apply another treatment to continue to bring it up. Any other suggestions? I will be ironing the hammers next time as they don't file easily...rough surface...this might also give me a little more attack. Sincerely, David ilvedson, RPT Pacifica, CA
