Verdigris from acid and copper?

Regarding verdigris,

Often I find verdegris on the ends of center pins that are bound by
the bushing cloth. The cloth itself is impregnated with the stuff,
and new pins (I tend to replace with German silver pins) will
corrode. This happens on new (Korean & Chinese pianos) as well as the
venerable S&S grands. My solution is change the cloth, either through
new flanges or tedious re-bushing. It seems that the cloth is
usually the culprit. I've never seen vertigris on pins in teflon
flanges, for example.
