<< A friend with a piano with a natural wood finish (that's all I know

occurs when someone without thinking sets a glass of water on the piano
and leaves it for a couple of days....

 Thanks for the help

If this has created a white ring type of stain, I've had luck ironing a piece
of cloth over the stain. It is my understanding that the white ring is caused
by water getting under the finish, and refracting the light, so you need to
get that out. The heat from the iron will remove the water. I'd suggest
starting with a warm iron, and increase the temp. until you get results. Keep
the iron moving so you don't texture the finish (melt) with an imprint of the
cloth. A too hot iron could obviously cause other finish problems. My kids
have given me multiple opportunities to try this method on our dining room
table.
