Dear John,

The sweet spot is found by ear, by moving the action in and out until
you find the spot that produces th4e most tone in the top and bottom
treble notes. This will also indicate what the rest of the piano sould
have for a hammer line. If you still have a question about this also
test the first note in the section below.

Blow distance is a variable which depends on the feel of the action.
After touch will dictate that.

The optimum hammer bore is determined by measuring the keybed to string
distance and subtracting the keybed to hammer center pin. If this is
off by more than 1/8" or 3mm you might consider new hammers and shanks.

Try plucking the strings with a guitar pick or you finger nails the
determine if the tone is truely in the piano to get out by hammer. If
the sustain is not there when you pluck then a hammer will not bring it
out. Conversely if the tone and sustain is there when you pluck it can
be gotten out with a hammer.
