Hammer rest rail bushings

Arlie,
There was an article in I believe it was the April 1996 issue of the
Journal about replacing the felt bushings for the hammer rest rail
hooks. Basically, you use a good bushing cloth, width equal to
circumference of the hole. Cut a strip a couple of inches long, cut a
point on one end, insert the point through the hole (pretty much like
bushing a flange). The point goes in the same direction that the rest
rail hook would (i.e. visualize the hook pushing the point through the
hole. Three go one way, the fourth the opposite direction).

Pull the cloth through until there's about 1/2" or so protruding from
the non-point side, push this flat against the action bracket, and while
holding it firmly against the bracket, pull the other side to take up
any slack. The Journal article says that glue isn't necessary. If you're
paranoid like me, you might put a little burnt shellac (or perhaps some
auto weather stripping contact cement) just to make sure it stays put.
