Roger I think your right on target. One can not give a simple answer to a complex problem. Other factors give the same or imitating response as the unlevel string. Loose flange screw, flange bushing (loose pinning), hammer shanks that twist under the pressure of acceleration forces, untraveled hammers, etc. Joe
