Was it Debain in Paris in 1844 who invented it? - the real one that is. re: pseudo/non-functional pedal - I generally call it a chaperone pedal, put there just to keep the other two apart. my first encounter with one was on a dealer warranty call where the customer had called complaining that the center pedal wasn't working. I found the problem without too much trouble, but then I had to delicately explain that, while the salesperson had sold her a piano with three pedals, no claims were ever med that they DID ANYTHING.
