To List from Sy Zabrocki:

Have you ever seen a Steinway finished with polyester? I have, just two weeks ago. We were on vacation in some western city and visited a prominent dealer. They were showing us around when I spotted this Steinway in polyester. Of course I assumed it was a rebuilt model. Nope. It was brand new.

This dealer trucks them to somewhere in Calif. where they are refinished in polyester. I asked them what Steinway thought of this. Steinway apparently disapproved softly.

I'm not willing to state this dealers name on the this media without asking their permission. We did exchange calling cards so I know their name. Some of you in that area might recognize who I'm talking about.

Anyway there it was--one shinny Steinway. I didn't scrutinize the job closely but it looked good to me. Would polyester adhere to a lacquer finish? Maybe the poly was applied over the Steinway lacquer. Didn't ask.
