NYSCON 97 - General Information

We will be breaking from tradition a bit in order to provide you with
exciting learning and networking opportunities at less cost. So, although
the conference will involve fewer days, it will be jam-packed with
information and fun.

The conference starts off with a special "Early Bird" presented by Ruth
Brown and Webb Phillips. This will be a 1/2 day introduction to the famous
line of Heinrich Konig polyester repair, shop and in-the-home touch up
finishing materials. The rest of the seminar will take place Saturday, all
day, and Sunday morning. We are delighted to announce that Chris Robinson
and Rick Baldassin will be doing a class together on grand rebuilding. The
class will span four periods, two periods Saturday and two Sunday. (Sunday
is a continuation of the class, not a repeat.) Chris informed me that he is
upgrading all his material on the subject for this event. With Chris and
Rick presenting new and updated material this class will be a "must- see"!

To make this a complete seminar on grands, we have invited the "grand
master" himself, Laroy Edwards, to give a class on grand action regulation.
This well organized and user-friendly Yamaha-sponsored class is always
popular.

For those interested in learning more about the upright piano, we will be
running classes on the subject concurrently with the grand seminar.

What is the best solution to repair an upright pinblock with a major
problem? Replacement would be the answer for many technicians. Our friend from
Canada, Bob Smit, will be giving a thought-provoking and practical class on
this subject. If you do much upright reconditioning you will not want to
miss this class.

Dan Levitan, New York City chapter, has agreed to do a two period class on
tuning. Those who have read Dan's recent Journal articles will know that he
brings a special insight in the area of tuning.

There will be several mini' technicals that will cover a variety of
interests including many basic skills appropriate for the Associate member.

A wine and cheese reception will open the conference Friday evening. Sample
some delicious wines from the internationally recognized vineyards of the
Finger Lakes region of New York State. Saturday, there will be a luncheon
(included in the registration) and a banquet with entertainment in the
evening. Sunday, there is a closing luncheon (also included in the
registration).

The Southern Tier Chapter is excited to present the first NYSCON Exhibitors
Showcase. This will be in conjunction with the Wine & Cheese Reception.
Come and enjoy two leisurely hours with our exhibitors during the
reception.

Auxiliary member Janet Frederick is working with us to set up a fun-filled
and exciting weekend for the auxiliary and family. Friday, there will be an
early bird tour of the world- renowned Corning Glass Works and Museum.
Saturday will begin with a tour billed as a *Winery and Foliage Tour*, with
lunch at one of the picturesque wineries on Seneca Lake. Corning and the
surrounding area will be particularly beautiful in mid-October.

Since this is a shortened conference weekend, expenses will not be as high
and you will need to take less time off from your business. Why not take
this opportunity to have an inexpensive, entertaining and educational fall
family getaway weekend. Mark your calendars (Friday afternoon, October 17
through Sunday morning, October 19) so you do not miss this exciting event.
