Dear Ralph: I have always been suspicious of what George Defebaugh called the "outside sixth, inside third," which does, indeed make up a dominant seventh in the third inversion. But what does it tell you? If they are equal beating, fine; but suppose one is faster than the other, which note would you then correct? Suppose the F sixth (F-D) is faster than the G third (G-B). Is the D too high? Is the F too low? (either of which will make the sixth beat faster). Is the G too high? Is the B too low? (either of which will make the sixth beat faster). Which note would you change? Fred On Wed, 26 Nov 1997, ralph m martin wrote: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fred W.
