Warren, The damper lift rod hangers are not aligned properly. Remove the action from the piano and remove the left most hanger retainer. Check it for wear and if it is severly worn replace the felt and replace it and test the lift. This could cure the problem. If not remove the retainer and remove the rail. Be careful not to scress the damper pinning or move the dampers overly much. Check that the rod is straight, the hanger arms are parallel and that the hooks are all in the same plain. Bend the arms and hooks accordingly. Check the hanger retainers for bushing wear. Replace the rod, carefully and gently and replace the action in the piano. Check the timing. The alternative is to retime the dampers as they are and lubricate the hangers to remove the squeak. Also, damper springs can squeak in their seats and damper lift felt can squeak agains a dirty or corroded rod. Newton nhunt@jagat.com
