Loops

     Avery,

I suspect what is meant by "loops" is the non-nodal areas of the
     vibrating string.

If you were to look at a partial of a vibrating string, and focus on
the area formed between the two nodes of that partial, that area would
be a loop, or oval shape.

In other words, the bulges, or peaks between the nodes are the areas
where you'd want the dampers to work. And I suspect you'd want the
damper to reside on as many of the dominant partial "loops" as
     possible.

The technical term, by the way, for the maximum amplitude of the
     vibration would be "peak."

     Regards,

     John Piesik, RPT
