CA glue vs epoxy

Martin Conroy, a local tuner, was working on a Storey and Clark spinet.
He said the torque on the pins was from 5 to 10 pounds. In the bass he
pulled the pins and swabbed the hole with quick set epoxy, drove the
original pins back, and in the treble he layed the piano on its back and
used CA glue. His original intent was to epoxy the entire piano, but he
said it would have been a mostrous task to pull all the pins and go the
epoxy route.

It was set up for us to compare, at least several days before the
meeting, since the fact of the repairs was mentioned in the local
newsletter. The pins I checked with the epoxy fix had from 50 to 70 inch
pounds of torque to loosen, and the CA fixes had 40 - 60 pounds of
torque.Talking with him about in, he indicated he preferred the "feel" of
the CA glue pins as they felt more like they were in a pin block. The
expoxied ones seemed somehow "different".

There was some discussion awhile back about the use of CA glue versus
pin tightener versus epoxy. Thought this might offer some grist for the
mill of discussion.
