Well temperament vs ET

The simplest, most straight forward explanation of a strong Well temperament
that I have heard came from Owen. He said that the black keys are tuned to
Pythagorean, and the white keys are tuned to Meantone. Now THAT is a
compromise. Equal is just a 1/12 ditonic comma meantone.
