I should mention that when I was levelling strings on the D I was referring to, I was also filing hammers a small amount, and correcting any regulation problems first, including letoff and aligning the hammers sideways to the strings. The string level problems I encountered and corrected were not subtle, but fairly substantial. I was doing a lot more than level strings, but that was the part I'd never done before. Mark Graham
