Get a block of wood, or two blocks, an inch or so greater than the diameter
of the leg and using a hole cutter or other appropriate tool cut a hole in
the block(s) just a few thousands smaller than the diameter of the leg.
Split the block (or seperate the halves) and you have a clamp that will fit
in a bench vise.

If the fit is a little loose you can line the inside with felt, vaneer,
leather or other soft material to use as a filler.

Do not use a woven wool cloth, it will leave marks in the finish.

Or you can get four or five students to hold the thing while another turns
the wrench.  Or have the students turn while another holds the wrench.

There is a solvent for epoxy, but I cannot remember it's name or manufacturer.
Heat may do the trick.
