There is an extension to your tuning tip that is smaller in diameter than a
regular tip.  Also there is a truned down tip that you can use.

These are available from the supply houses.  I carry one of the former at all
times in my case, because it is used to turn out tuning pins for string
replacement.  Makes turning out easy when the hammer is higher than the rim.
