The Lauter Piano Co of Newark, NJ made some small grand pianos with concrete rims. The surface was covered with a thin paper like material, grained to look like wood. They are very heavy of course, and usually had bad pin-blocks (wood). These also sometimes had unusual actions, with a free floating wedge shaped weight which replaced both the jack and the backcheck. Few of these pianos survive. Albert Lord. albertlord@compuserve.com
