Dear list,

Just a comment on a lovely upright piano that I tuned today: a Sohmer
100th Anniversary model, 45" upright, built in 1972. It's now in tough
shape, spending its final days in a church in Manhattan.

But what an instrument when it was young! : incredible gild-painted
backchecks; beautiful green muting felt under the strings between the
pins and the v-bar; good solid hammers with an orange-colored core felt;
a plate that still glows a rich golden color.

Ah, Sohmer. Known in New York as "the poor man's Steinway." Sad to see
the name go.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tom Sheehan, RPT
