Ted; You have gotten some very good comments on this thread. I think that Newton is probably correct in his perception comment and you probably will have to change that customers perception. What she is hearing and what you are hearing is exactly the same thing but she is hearing it different from you, so indeed there is a mismatch of perception here. there are several tacks you can take.,i.e.; 1. Change the strike point on that hammer (this can change the excitation of the string and perhaps mute the higher partials somewhat ??) 2. Move the position of the front bridge pin further back on the bridge (this can change the speaking length and thus move the partials around somewhat, possibly muting the higher partials ??) 3. Voice the hammer to acheive a fuller, rounder, tone from that string (more body in the sound will tend to hide some higher partials ??) 4. Since you are probably dealing with her perception, tune the note to where she is happy with it (if it does not put it too egregiously out of synch with the rest of the PSO !) 5. Prove to her that she is absolutely wrong. (be very careful if you use this approach because the result can easily be creating a new customer for another tech ! ) 6. Of course you might refer her to another tech and feel better off without her on your list. Ted your problem is a real sticky wicket--good luck! Jim Bryant (FL)
