Paul Siwko-Bajon recently wrote for advice on moving his 19th century English grand piano from Poland to the USA. I would add a word of caution: There have been "horror stories" circulated in the not-too-distant past concerning pianos being stopped at the USA border by customs agents because the owner could not furnish proof that the ivory keytops were harvested legally (notwithstanding the fact that the pianos involved were made before any of the current ivory import restrictions were in place)! In at least one instance, the owner (having none of the required documentation) was forced to remove the ivoryl keytops in order to get customs to allow the piano into the country. I do not know how valid any of these stories are but, at the very least, anyone considering such a move would do well to investigate this further via "the proper authorities". Best of luck and smooth sailing, Paul!! Let us know how it all comes out. Regards, Alan Crane, RPT Wichita State University crane@twsuvm.uc.twsu.edu
