Further to strings breaking on a Kimball 5 foot grand: A local technician who serviced many of these pianos for the former local dealer says he had experienced similar difficulties with string breakage. He was told by Roger Weisensteiner that Kimball experimented with high tension scales on many of their models. Apparently (I am not making this up) he was told Kimball used a special type of music wire better able to withstand these higher tensions. I am having some difficulty believing such stuff exists but perhaps some of you could confirm/deny this? Best regards, Stan M.
