Greetings fellow technicians: I agree with Jim Coleman Sr. re: backcheck. Here is a similar question though: Why does engaging the shift pedal cause damping problems on so many grands? One would think (like with the backcheck and the hammer) that the two systems are unrelated. Typically the problems (diminished damping) are in the midrange and low treble, although it varies within this range from piano to piano. Any ideas? Tom Lowell (new subscriber)
