A metronome is not a piano!<-: A mechanical metronome has an escapement like a pendulum clock...the length of the pendulum is increased or decreased by moving the slide, thus varying the speed. If the escapement catch has been bent (possibly by forcing the pendulum to one side) the tick will not equal the tock! Evening (not night) up the catch with needle-nose pliers should take care of the problem. Of course you know the damned thing has to be level to work correctly. Hope this helps!
