New Steinway Patent

Hi Folks...

Here is the "Official" word from Steinway & Sons on their new patent which
has been discussed on this list, courtesy of Bob Snyder.

   The "official" Steinway position on the patent issue is this:

   The patent is still pending.

Steinway & Sons has requested that a "big deal" NOT be made of this.  Once
the patent has been granted the design will go through MANY YEARS of testing
and may never reach the showroom floor anyway.

*Please* treat this with some sensitivity. There is no point getting anyone
(especially dealers and present/future Steinway owners) excited about a
development which may die on the design board or workshop despite a patent
application.

On a somewhat related note, I've just received confirmation that there
should be a technician from Steinway & Sons on-line here in Pianotech within
the next few days. Apparantly a station at the factory has been set up
specifically to access this list and answer the correspondence they've been
receiving via the WWW and EMail.
