If the damage is only to the surface of the felt there are a few things to try
before replacement.

1. Using a tooth brush try to clean the surface.
2. The dampers can be peeled to expose fresh felt. This will require re
regulating timing and spoons.
3. Ruth Jordan 301-587-7757 sells damper resurfacing tools made to clean
and fuzz up damper felts of all four types. These are invaluable tools.
4. Replace the damper felts with felts the same thickness and type.
