>Hello.I'm an associate who has passed the written and tech. exams.I plan on >taking my tuning test this year.My question is has anyone taken the exam using >the Hale Sight-O-Tuner?Is this device to dated?I hope to take the test >aurally, but just in case. > Best Mike > mds@lns62.lns.cornell.edu Is it a measuring-only Sight-O-Tuner or does it have the "Concert Tuning" option? If it does, you may try it but you still have to tune A0-B2 And F#6-C8 by ear. If you don't have the "Concert Tuning" option on the machine, I believe you are better to try the aural only exam. I have done my exam with an Accutuner II that's got the ability to compute an entire tuning on a given piano by making stretch measurements on three notes. It usually make a very good job but it happened that I barely passed the mid-range section. In fact, I would have failed it if I had not made few last minute corrections by ear. Strange enough, I got 94% with the aural test on the same section. If I can give you an other advice, MAKE A PRE-SCREEN TEST before attempting the real one, if you had not done so yet. No technicians had ever heard my tunings before I passed the test and that put me a tremendous pression upon my shoulders. Because in doing so, I sort of doubled the PTG test with another one for myself as to know if I was a good tuner or not. It is imperative you already know what you are worth of before attempting the test. In that state of mind, you just feel to do "business as usual" to successfully pass it. Moreover, an eventual failure would less compromise your own opinion about your tuning ability. Hope my poor English was of some help. Good luck! Michel Lachance, RPT Chance@cme.qc.ca
