Vince, you're right.  Back in the 70's there was an adjustable spring
called "soundboard springs".  As I recall they went between the soundboard
and the posts and by turning an adjusting screw you could adjust the crown
of the soundboard.  I've never used them but I remember reading about them.
Maybe this is a good use for something like that, if we could find out
where to get them.
