Ron: Good tech tip. I have done that several times, and it works. Just a short note on why perhaps the old damper is not seating properly in the first place. Ernie Juhn mentioned this in an earlier post, and when he teaches his class on dampers. If you tighten the screws of the damper flanges, the head will actually misallign itself, and it will be very difficult to get the head back to where it wants to go. Therefore. do not tighten the screws on old damper flanges, (unless they are leally loose and create a noise.). This will allow the damper head to follow in the old grooves.
