Hi, Avery,
      One immediate thought is that the dampers are rising then vibrate side
to side causing a mechanical sound.  The solution is the bend the wires just
above the damper top flange so the wire rides one side of the bushing, or the
other, whichever allows the damper to seat properly, without becoming sluggish.
      Rebushing the guide rail would also be helpful.
      If the dampers are hard it could be caused by the damper dancing on the
string before finally muting.
