Teacher's piano problem

Hi everyone,
Once again I ask for help from the list to see if a piano problem sent
to me via e-mail can be solved. I'm usually a fairly good diagnostician, but
this one has me stumped. Of course, not being able to actually hear it doesn't
help. Here's the post:

I have a technician question which my technician cannot answer, and I
thought I'd try for your input, realizing that you can't hear the
problem.

I have in my studio a 7' Baldwin, purchased about 4 years ago. It has
what I call "organ pipes" in some, but not all, of the bass notes.
That is, at the initial tone there is a "pfffft" sound, which reminds
me a little of the mechanical sound of an organ pipe. It doesn't
happen on each note. Could it be some type of overtone caused by the
damper exciting the string upon playing?

My technician hears it, but is not sure what it is, and thus can't
seem to make it go away. I have a similar sized Steinway next to it,
and it doesn't do it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Dick

Any help anyone might be able to give would be greatly appreciated. I've
asked some specific questions about when the sound occurs, in what section
(singles or doubles), etc. If I get any further clarification from Dick, I'll
post an update.
