To All And Sundry (Especially to Sundry) Kimball at one time put out sme perfectly awful pianos, as did Aeolian and a number of other departed, but not particularly lamented, AMERICAN makers. I've always opined that in order to meet Asian low price competition the cheaper U.S. makers kept cutting corners until the product just rolled out of sight. Of course there were many reasons for their demise, not the least of which were superannuated equipment and over-unionized labor. And, of course, bad mouthing from technicians didn't help. Speaking of which, I wonder how many CAUT techies know that Kimballs are a composite product -- strung backs made by Baldwin, actions by Pratt-Win, cases by Kimball. Which didn't they like?
