Tom Cobble had the right idea, noting that the dates are not so important as
the configuration of the components.
The first humidistats with black plastic cases came out by May 1988, and it
was six months to a year before the problem became widely recognized. They
were quick to diagnose it, thank goodness, and fix it, but there are about
1-1/2 years worth of stats out that may malfunction.
As Tom noted, if it is a black plastic stat, and does not have the orange tag
on it - then it needs to be replaced - - - whether it is functioning
correctly (right now) or not.
Dampp-Chaser will replace the stat and light (the two pieces go together, and
are not interchangeable) when you return it to them.
