Fred:

Del Fandrich has a great (read long) responce to your question about where
the pitch rises most on pianos in this months PTJ. I promised myself 3
years ago when I got my SAT that I'd never do another pitch raise without
one. I just use the pitch raise calculator and go from bottom to top
unisons as I go.

I normally set the pitch raise first by reading A2. I then tune with
that offset until I get up to the bass/treble break. I reset the
calculator on the lowest note of the treble bridge and continue. I reset
again on the first plain wire North of the break, again at A4, again on
the first unison North of the treble scale break. When I'm done with
that pitch raise it is amazingly close. There are pianos I still tune
without Sandy but _not_ pianos that need a pitch raise.
