I agree with Ken.

I like the baseball analogy.  The damper is kind of like a baseball.  Much
of the energy goes into getting the bat moving.  The momentum of the moving
bat is what imparts energy to the ball.

In the piano action the momentum of the keystick contributes significantly
to moving the damper, not just the finger pushing down.
