Someone posted a question referring to crystallization of old brass wire (not sure who). While I've seen this process complete in some 10 year old Sitar strings I have, I recall a recent comment from Ed Swenson that the original (1830!) brass strings on his latest Graf restoration were mostly intact. So perhaps the old wire drawers knew something we no longer know.
