Years ago when I knew less than the little I know now, I did one of those 4 piece pinblock Chickerings. I also didn't have as many power tools. My solution was to make the bass section from a piece of scrap pinplank since it had the least curves and valleys. the other three sections I reused the original pinblock (nicely fitted already) and used pinblock plugs.
