bass bridge replace: glues? makers?

   This is more of a question than an answer, but do you have a good rebuilder
in your area who might could cut down the bridge and then put a cap on it
rather than replacing the whole bridge.
   I know this is done and wonder if it is considered a valid repair. It seems
like it would eliminate a lot of potential positioning problems, etc.
