Regarding effective termination of residual vermin odors:

Jack and I have recently had the _amazing opportunity and learning
experience_ of treating dammaged wood in our new house. We found out that
pet stores (lower prices) and vets (higher, pyramid distribution prices)
carry enzyme based products, various titles, that basically eat P for
breakfast. The stuff was developed for the trickiest odor: cats. Worked
great for both the preditor and the prey P here. You apply the product
liberally so that it will soak into the dammaged area. Will only complete
the job to the extent that it penetrates as far as the initial stain. Does
not smell too bad and is not particularly toxic, do not eat for _your_
breakfast though. Very effective. It is a liquid -- maybe not best approach
for keys themselves but great for frame/ bed/ inside case
pieces.
